‘For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.’
Hosea 6:6

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that [Jesus] sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, (Luke 7:37, KJV)

What do you know about God and what steps have you taken based on that revelation? The sinner took action when she knew Jesus was in Simons house.

Do you remember the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15?
‘And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to [his] father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth [to me]. And he divided unto them [his] living……. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. (Luke 15:17-20KJV)
The prodigal knew his father that is why he could go back to his father. He knew he had messed up but he knew that his father will accept him. He took that step to go back to his father and he was accepted. What do you know about God? Is it a personal knowledge or what someone told you that has made you to stay away from God? The Lord is always calling us to come. ( Please read Matthew 11:28, Isaiah 55:1, Rev 22:17)

Do you think he would have gone back if he didn’t know the father? I think not; because he had a personal knowledge of the father. The elder brother on the other hand, was in the house but didn’t know the father. The sinful woman went to Simon’s house just like the younger brother went, with his focus on the father. He knew the father had the power. He knew salvation belongs to our God and unto the lamb forever more. He knew the father had the key. He knew the father was compassionate.
This reminds me of Psalm 51 when David sinned, what do you think made him go to God? He knew the nature of God; that he was compassionate and merciful.

‘(To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.)
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (Psalms 51:1, KJV)

David knew God was loving and merciful so he could approach him based on this nature of God. He could come boldly to the throne of grace. The knowledge of God is a key in coming to him. Many people do not read the bible for themselves. They depend on whatever people have told them about God because of which many have received a distorted knowledge about God. Many people’s knowledge of God is based on their personal experiences with certain people/ Christians in church.
In my interactions with people, the knowledge of God I have gotten from them is that of a Spirit being ready to pounce on me when I do wrong, and who will cast me away for my wrong doings and mistakes. God hasn’t got time for failures and mistakes.
I remember the very first day Psalm 51 made sense to me. I had always had in my mind that I couldn’t have been able to go to God if I had done what David did. I would have been like Adam running from the presence of God, or Cain going away from God’s presence. Why do we have that kind of mind?
🛑JUDGEMENT 👩‍⚖️🧑‍⚖️🛑. It is time to renew your mind with the word ‘And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.’ Eph 4:23 John 3:17 ‘for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but the world through him might be saved.‘
Knowledge of God – How did David and the prodigal son have such a knowledge of God that many people do not have? How come they could return to him while many – and I mean many people run 🏃🏽‍♀️ away when they sin?
David had a personal relationship with God, and you turn to people you know and spend time with when issues arise. David also loved God’s word, and knew what was written in the word.
Remember the prodigal son once had a relationship with his dad too – that was why he could ask his dad to divide the inheritance and give him his portion. He knew his elder brother wasn’t merciful but his father was, and that was why he went straight to him.
Today decide to read the word of God for yourself. Do your quiet time and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the word of God. Read good books written by anointed men and women of God. Listen to anointed messages and your knowledge of God will increase.

‘ For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.’
