Rev 2:11
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; …… (Revelation 2:11, KJV)

“Anyone who is willing to hear should listen to the Spirit and understand what the Spirit is saying to the churches…. Rev 2:11 TLB

We might have ears but can not hear what is going on around us sometimes. Why? Because our ears are not tuned to that sound or voice. I might be listening to a message while doing something, and my husband will say something like ’Wow, did you hear that’? And I will be like no, I wasn’t listening. I am there, I have ears, but it was not tuned to the voice of the one speaking.
In the verse above, the Lord is telling us that if we are willing, we will hear because the Spirit is speaking to the church. This means we must make a conscious effort to hear or listen. Our ears must be tuned in to the Lord’s voice.
How do we hear someone’s voice? By being close. If I call out my son’s name and he is not close to where I am, chances are that he will not hear me. The closer he is to me or where I am, the more he can hear me even when I whisper.
Now, how can we hear God?

  1. We must be close to him by prayer. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you….” James 4:6
  2. We must know his word to know his voice. John 10: 27 says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me“.
When we know how the Lord speaks through the knowledge of the scriptures, when a false shepherd speaks, we will be able to identify him or her because we know the Lord’s voice. He speaks his word.
  3. We can also ask the Lord to open our ears to hear His voice. “The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.” (Isaiah 50:5, KJV)
Remember, there are so many kinds of voices in the world, so we have to make sure our knowledge of the scriptures is intact to distinguish between the voice of the Lord and all other voices. “There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.” 1 Cor 14:10

Let’s pray
Father, what a joy and a blessing to be known by You and to hear Your voice directing us and teaching us. We ask for the grace to seek You, the grace to study Your word, and also that You turn our hearts towards Yours so that we can love and serve You.

Amen 🙏
