Light is a natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. This is just one of the meanings of light. We are able to see well and make decisions when we can see or when we have a picture of something. Normally, when we donât have light we stumble and hurt ourselves, but every time there is light, we are able to see clearly.
Many of us have regrets about the way we wrongly handled things in the past or how we are currently handling issues, which have in many cases led or kept us in the bondage of guilt or condemnation.
We need to settle it in our hearts and admit that we didnât have light, which was why we walked on that path? Not knowing the Lord as the âLIGHTâ and not following âHIMâ, has caused us to walk in darkness.
Letâs look at John 8:1 -12;
â1 Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and talked to them. 3 As he was speaking, the Jewish leaders and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery and placed her out in front of the staring crowd.
4 âTeacher,â they said to Jesus, âthis woman was caught in the very act of adultery. 5 Mosesâ law says to kill her. What about it?â
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, âAll right, hurl the stones at her until she dies. But only he who never sinned may throw the first!â
8 Then he stooped down again and wrote some more in the dust. 9 And the Jewish leaders slipped away one by one, beginning with the eldest, until only Jesus was left in front of the crowd with the woman.
10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, âWhere are your accusers? Didnât even one of them condemn you?â
11 âNo, sir,â she said.
And Jesus said, âNeither do I. Go and sin no more.â
12 Later, in one of his talks, Jesus said to the people, âI am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you wonât be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.â
Woow what a story. Everyone was ready to stone the âSINNERâ to death, but thank God for Jesus the âLIGHTâ. He saw that none of them were following him and therefore were all guilty of sin; so He asked the one without sin to be the first to cast the stone . This reminds me of the word that says âFor all have sinned and come short of the glory of Godâ Rom 3:23.
Now, the lesson I learnt from this encounter at this time is, Jesus knew that the woman caught in adultery was in that life style because she didnât and hadnât come into contact with the âLIGHTâ; hence her behaviour. When she encountered the âLIGHTâ He taught her what to do, âgo and sin no moreâ. That is what the “LIGHT” does, it shows us what to do and what not to do. And what is this âLIGHTâ? It is the word of God.
Psalm 119:105 âThy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my pathâ. (Psalms 119:105, KJV)
When we have an encounter with the âLIGHTâ and we follow him, we will not walk in darkness, but when we have an encounter with the âLIGHTâ and we donât follow him, we will still walk in darkness.
âJesus said to the people, â I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to lifeâ John 8:12 TLB
Letâs pray đ
Father, thank you for another opportunity to read your word. It is an honor to be called to your table to be fed your word, which is good for the soul. We ask that you give us the grace to follow you in every situation in Jesusâs name.
Amen đ
