“But Jehoshaphat said, [Is there] not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here [is] Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him”. (2 Kings 3:11-12KJV)
The above happened when Jehoram the son of Ahab was king, and the king of Moab decided to cease paying his dues. Jehoram called two other kings to go join him battle against the king of Moab to force him to pay up. From scriptures, I know Jehoshaphat who was one of the kings always inquired of the Lord before any undertaking. I was therefore surprised they just set up to go for a battle without inquiring of the Lord. When they however faced some hardship, he asked his people to go and look for a prophet.
Some people are like Jehoshaphat who always speak and seek God about everything. Others seek God but most of the time use their God given senses to do things without seeking God; they will normally say something like this is ‘common sense’. People like Jehoshaphat are labelled as “Sister or Brother Spiri” and other such names. Reading this scripture however, if “Sister or Brother Spiri” wasn’t around at this time, they would have perished. A word for all the “Spiri” brothers and sisters, keep on seeking God at every turn and you will save lives.
Now, Jehoshaphat asked if there was a prophet around because the word of the Lord will definitely be with him, and indeed it is so because Jer 29:13 says “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Who is a prophet?
In the Old Testament, people will normally seek prophets because the word of the Lord was with them, and it is also so in the new testament. In the new testament God has made us kings and priests, “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 1:6, which means, we can pray for ourself regarding an issue, we can stand in for our families and we can ask our Pastors to also pray for us.
Are you about to embark on a project – be it a business, a marriage, a house, a school etc? Have you enquired of the Lord? Do you not think that the Lord has something to say about everything? Prov 3:5-6 says “ 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. “
Recently, I was given a project to do and faced many blockages. I was getting stressed about this project that I initially thought was going to be easy to accomplish within hours. At the end of the day, I had no results and even the person I was doing the project with did not respond to my text messages and wasn’t picking my calls. I just knelt down to pray about the issue for a few minutes and within minutes, the person called me, and in less than 2 hours the whole project was finished. I was like wooow, God is always good.
Is there not a prophet?
You are a priest. Seek God and he will answer and reveal things that you know not off.
“For the eyes of the Lord [are] over the righteous, and his ears [are open] unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord [is] against them that do evil”. (1 Peter 3:12, KJV)
Let’s pray
Father thank you for Jesus. Thank you for the cross that has made a way for us to come boldly to your throne of grace. We ask you for the spirit of supplication that will enable us to pray and seek your face always and please remind us by your spirit to seek you in all things .
Amen 🙏
