He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will be] with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. (Psalms 91:15, KJV)
How many of us have been in trouble and felt like we were alone? You may have friends or a spouse but none of them may be willing to do what’s necessary to identify with your troubles or issues. It become like โeach one for himself and God for us allโ.
I remember many years ago, I was responsible for something that wasnโt working. I remember telling my friends about it, who then proceeded to laugh at me. They asked each other whether anyone was willing to help; and everyone said no, including my beloved. They then proceeded to give me a nickname.
I remember going home that day crying and later spoke to the Lord about what had happened, and how no one loved me ๐๐๐๐๐๐. The Lord responded to my prayer by giving me a dream in which He told me he loved me ๐ค. The Lord was with me but my focus was on people.
The Lord has promised to be with us in times of trouble; we often however fix our eyes on men (I mean human beings), and so are not able to see the Lord at work during such times. We get angry and sad because no one around us is willing to help us.
What has the Lord said about such times?
He has said He will be with us.
In Isaiah 43:1-3 the Lord says โ1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I [am] the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt [for] thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. (Isaiah 43:1-3)
What a promise.
We see this practically in the book of Daniel when the Hebrew boys refused to bow down to the king’s image and were cast into the fire.
โIf it be [so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver [us] out of thine hand, O king.
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set upโฆโฆ
22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, [and] spake, and said unto his counsellers, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of Godโ. (Daniel 3:17-25 KJV)
These boys had the word of God alive in them and they followed that light. If we fix our eyes on Jesus the light, no evil will overcome us. Letโs look for the Lord in our troubles because he is there with us.
โI will be with them in trouble.”
Letโs pray ๐
Father thank you for your promises. Help us to trust and depend on you in every season of life in the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen ๐
