Luke 2:11
“The Saviour – yes, the Messiah, the Lord- has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David.”
I believe, many of us (if not all) have saviours – people who did something in our lives that had it not been for that intervention, we would have had a very different life today. For example, there are people who save us from potentially fatal outcomes in times of illness like doctors, or people who come to our aid at just the right place and time, whose counsel or help turned a bad situation around. Such people bring joy and we label them as saviours.
What did the saviour in the above verse however do for us? Let’s look at some scriptures about this Saviour.
When the angel appeared to Joseph in a dream in Matt 1:21 he said “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Paul wrote “This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Timothy 1:15, KJV)
John the Baptist said this about Jesus “ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29, KJV)
If Jesus came into the world to save sinners, who then are the sinners?
Rom 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; “.
How did the Saviour do it?
Isaiah 53:5-7 says “But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the guilt and sins of us all.
He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.”
“He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” 1 John 2:2
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.“ (Hebrews 9:22, KJV)
How do we get this salvation from the Saviour?
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Salvation is free for all.
Let’s pray 🙏
Lord Jesus, thank you that you came into this world to save sinners, please forgive me for all my wrong choices and come into my heart and be my Lord.
Amen 🙏
