When Zacchaeus went to Church
“And [Jesus] entered and passed through Jericho. And, behold, [there was] a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that [way]. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. “(Luke 19:1-5KJV)
Many Zacchaeus’ come to church but how many Jesus’ do they meet? I remember when I was at the University, I went to one of the charismatic churches on campus and I saw two of my course mates very active in the service and I sat at the back admiring them. “They were born again”. I didn’t know the difference then because I was a Catholic but I used to go to other churches. They looked happy, smart and very confident. After the service I left but that picture of them remained on my mind. I was a Zacchaeus then but no Jesus came to me.
What will make a Zacchaeus give their lives to Christ and remain with Christ? When they meet Jesus! Jesus knew who Zacchaeus was but he first of all offered his kindness ( love in action) and stopped his program to attend to him( he went to his house)
“And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully”(Luke 19:5- 6 KJV).
When people meet Jesus through our actions, they will receive him joyfully. But we must make sure to always point people to Jesus, we should explain to them the reason for our actions so that they too can connect to Jesus themselves.
Zacchaeus addressed Jesus directly “And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold. “(Luke 19:8, KJV).
This will result in the salvation of many.
“And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. “(Luke 19:9, KJV)
