“And besides, are you greater than our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his cattle enjoyed?”
John 4:12
Love is a wonderful thing – so powerful that it can let people move from one end of the world to another. Some have experienced sweet love, others have experienced a heavy or 💔 broken heart; yet still others have not experienced love either because they were deceived at the beginning of the relationship or have encountered different obstacles. People have different stories to tell about love. What is your story?
Most people are used to a certain kind of love; having developed it due to their temperament or picking it up from the world around them.
I so love the story about the woman at the well. Everyone has a story in the Bible that resonates with them; giving them.lessons to live by.
In this story, the woman asked Jesus if He is able to offer a ‘better water’ than what had been offered to her by others. Wow 🤩.
I love Jesus 😂. He really has time for us . He answered the woman and said “people soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life.“ (John 4:13-14 TLB).
After Jesus gave this word, the woman’s doubt was cleared so she asked Jesus to “give me some of that water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and won’t have to come here to haul water.” (John 4:15) What an encounter.
Jesus was using our physical need for water as a metaphor to explain the needs of our souls. He used the well to explain the woman’s need to her. Just like you always come for water here to satisfy your thirst, there is a thirst in your soul that is making you go from one man to another (or to anything that is used to quench a thirst be it drugs, alcohol, porn etc).
Now Jesus had to open to her what he is talking about and show her where her thirst was.
“Go and get your husband,“ Jesus told her.
“I don’t have a husband,“ the woman replied. Jesus said, you’re right! You don’t have a husband – for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. “Sir “, the woman said, “you must be a prophet.” John 4:16-19.
The woman understood that, just like she had a need for water which required her to go to the well regularly, her need for love had made her to have many marriages (boy friends), but still she was not satisfied. So to answer the woman’s question – whether Jesus could give “better water”, the answer is yes. Jesus said “But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life.“ John 4:14 TLB
From John 7:37-39 we know that Jesus was talking about the Holy Spirit.
The woman left her pot ….which means that she gave Jesus her thirst in exchange for the water that takes away thirst.
Many of us want someone to love us. But if you have been around for a little while, you will know it is not that simple. Submit the thirst in your heart to the Lord and ask him to give you the water that quenches thirst and waters the heart unto eternal life.
When you have the love of God in your heart, a little love from your loved ones will make you ok 😀. (I think so)
