Luke 16:9 “I’m telling you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous riches, so that when they’re gone you’ll be welcomed into eternal homes.”
Jesus is teaching that earthly wealth though imperfect, temporary, and tied to a fallen system can still be used in a godly way. When you use money to bless, support, and show mercy, you create relationships and impact that follow you into eternity, where those you helped will “welcome” you into God’s everlasting home. Our generosity will also build us homes in heaven.
Practical ways to be rich towards God include:
- meeting needs, supporting ministry, blessing the vulnerable.
- using your home, food, and time to strengthen others.
- helping those who cannot repay you
- funding gospel work that leads people to Christ
- refusing to treat money as security.
When you use wealth to love others, you show that your heart belongs to God, not mammon.
