“Mar 9:49 For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt.

Mar 9:50 Salt is good. But if salt loses its taste, how can you restore its flavor? Keep on having salt among yourselves, and live in peace with one another.”

The Lord Jesus wants us to be salted. But the process of becoming salt is through fire, according to His word. Now, what is salt? In the Bible, salt is a powerful symbol of purity, preservation, covenant loyalty, wisdom, and the believer’s influence in the world.

And why salt? In Jewish sacrificial law, every offering had to be seasoned with salt: “And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.” (Leviticus 2:13, KJV)

Now, the Lord says we must have salt, and this salt will come through fire. 1 Peter 1:7 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:7, KJV)

According to multiple commentaries, fire represents God’s purifying work in a believer’s life for example, trials, discipline, correction, and sanctification. This fire burns away sin, refines character, produces holiness, and makes a person fit for God’s service. “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.” (Malachi 3:3, KJV)

The Lord Himself does the “fire works.” “He shall sit” means He is intentional about the work He wants to produce in us. He removes impurities and refines our character so that we can be like Jesus.

So, my friends, impurities in us do not go away with wishful thinking  “they are salted with fire.” Jesus says we should have salt in ourselves, and also that everyone will be salted with fire. He wants us to be preserving, flavourful, and faithful. Get ready!
